Coast Guard Training Center Yorktown’s Morale Well-Being and Recreation (MWR) staff hosted the Coast Guard’s 35th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Basketball Tournament in Yorktown, Va., January 22-26.

“This is the largest basketball tournament in the Coast Guard and has the highest attendance of teams from all over the United States, with players dedicating much of their own time and money to participate,” said Chief Warrant Officer Randy Litka, the training center’s MWR section chief.

Crewmembers from Sector Mobile, Ala., captured the championship defeating crewmembers from The National Capitol Region and Coast Guard Headquarters. Sector Miami placed third.

“This tournament is about more than just basketball,” said Litka. ” It’s about visiting old shipmates, renewing friendships from past units and most importantly remembering the legacy and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”
