Throughout the day, nearly 1,600 people from the Coast Guard and the military, their families, friends and guests from the local community enjoyed a number of entertaining events, planned by the base’s Morale, Well-being and Recreation staff. The base hosted 214 entries in a classic car show and a number of family entertainment events, including amusement rides, face painting, music and various games throughout the day. Also on display for the patrons was one of the new 38-foot Special Purpose Craft Training Boats from the base’s Boat Forces Center.

“Being my first Coast Guard Day here at Training Center Yorktown, I was extremely impressed to see such a tremendous turnout from the public and such outstanding volunteerism amongst our base staff and students,” said Stephenson. “Our MWR staff did an excellent job to make this event happen, and we couldn’t be more proud to celebrate our service’s 222nd birthday alongside agencies, citizens and friends throughout our local community.”
