>DHS 8th Anniversary Celebration

March 2011 marks the 8th anniversary of the Department of Homeland Security.  As Secretary Napolitano said in the inaugural “State of America’s Homeland Security” address in January, our nation is more secure than it was two years ago, and more secure than when DHS was founded. Since it was formed in 2003, DHS has achieved significant progress across its key mission areas: preventing terrorism, securing our borders; enforcing our immigration laws; securing cyberspace; and ensuring resilience to disasters. We are all safer when local law enforcement works together with the communities and citizens they serve, and their partners in the federal government and the private sector. It is a simple but powerful, idea — homeland security begins with hometown security.
The DHS Anniversary website showcases this eight year history and some of the achievements of the Department including a photo retrospective and department highlights.
