>**UPDATE** Safety Zone; Jordan Bridge Pier Demolition, Elizabeth River, Southern Branch (Jul. 29-31, 2010)

>The Captain of the Port Hampton Roads advises all local mariners, vessels and facilities that Seaward Marine Corporation will begin explosive blasting operations of the Jordan Bridge piers over the Elizabeth River. Explosive blasting will occur in the vicinity of Chesapeake and Portsmouth, VA at approximate position 36̊48’30”N/076̊17’24”W on July 29-30, 2010 for a brief period between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on July 31, 2010 for a brief period between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The Coast Guard will close the waterway from the Belt Line Railroad Bridge at mile 2.6 to the Norfolk and Western Portsmouth Chesapeake Railroad Bridge at mile 3.6 on the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River. During the two hour periods vessel traffic will be permitted to transit in this area only with prior consent from the Captain of the Port or his designated representative. Audible warnings for vessels will be provided and will commence as follows: Three minutes before the explosive blasting begins, a three minute long audible signal will sound. Immediately before the explosive blasting begins, three short audible signals will sound. One long audible signal will sound for the “all clear.”
