36th Annual East Coast Commercial Fishermen’s & Aquaculture Trade Expo

This year, the Maryland Waterman’s Association sponsored the 36th Annual East Coast Commercial Fishermen’s & Aquaculture Trade Exposition at the Ocean City Convention Center, Ocean City, MD. The three day event (Jan 29-31) provided 82 exhibitors, representing commercial vendors, maritime organizations, and governmental agencies the opportunity to showcase new products and interact with the maritime community. In addition to the exhibitors, there were a number of seminars presented. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources presented “Apprenticeship Program Fisheries Management Seminar”. Vane Brothers and USCG presented a demonstration of safety gear (EPIRB, immersion suit, and inflatable liferaft). There were also a number of presentations relating to growing and selling baitfish; community supported seafood; and building a new oyster industry.

The 5th District booth was manned with active duty, civilian, and auxiliary personnel from CGHQ, D5, Sector’s Baltimore, Delaware Bay and Hampton Roads, and the Regional Examination Center. The Coast Guard personnel on hand answered mariner questions, discussed areas of concern, and assisted with scheduling “Voluntary Dockside Examinations”. A number of pamphlets, placards and guidebooks were distributed as part of the 5th District Uninspected Vessel Outreach program.
