>NTSB Issues its Full Report on the Queen of the West Engine Room Fire

>The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) issued its full report of its investigation of an engineroom fire onboard the Queen of the West, a U.S. small passenger vessel, in the Columbia River on April 8, 2008. The probable cause of the fire was the failure of a pressurized component on the port main propulsion hydraulic system, resulting in hydraulic oil spraying onto the port engine’s exhaust piping and igniting. Based on its investigaiton, NTSB issued a new recommendation and reiterated a previous recommendation to the Coast Guard regarding requirements to equip small passenger vessels with out-of- water survival craft as well as automatic fire detection and fixed fire suppression system.
