>Five Mid-Atlantic States Pledge Coordination on Offshore Policy

>Recently, the governors of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia signed an agreement pledging to coordinate their respective states’ coastal and ocean policies.

The agreement highlights a number of policy areas as priorities, including renewable energy projects on offshore lands, and sets in motion the development of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Council on the Ocean. The Council will be led by an Executive Committee that also is responsible for reporting back to the Governors on progress made in addressing the agreement’s priorities.

Appropriate federal agencies with significant resource responsibilities in the Mid-Atlantic will be asked to participate, with the first summit being held within six months. Next Spring, and periodically as necessary, the Council will meet to review the broad policy direction of the agreement and to identify new priority issues for interstate collaboration. The Council has established the following website: http://www.midatlanticocean.org/.
