>Federal, State Officials Hail Progress at James River Fleet Site

>Newport News, Va. – Acting Maritime Administrator David T. Matsuda and Virginia Governor Tim Kaine recently noted significant progress in moving obsolete ships out of the James River Reserve Fleet, citing cooperation between state and federal officials in helping move the complex process forward.

The fleet, which included more than 800 ships in the years after World War II, now numbers 18 after the Escape was recycled this past week. Since 2001, 84 ships have been removed from the Fleet.
