Doug McCullough, both a North Carolina Court of Appeals judge and an author, spoke to the crew of Coast Guard Station Fort Macon about his book Sea of Greed March 14.

McCullough was invited to speak at the station because his book, Sea of Greed, is of historical and significant importance to Station Fort Macon. Specifically it was the capture and seizure of the trawling vessel “Bobby M” and the several thousand pounds of marijuana aboard by Station Fort Macon that led to the eventual downfall of a drug cartel and the ruler of Panama, Manuel Noriega.

Prior to being a judge, McCullough spent more than 30 years in law, serving on both sides of the bench. During the 1980’s, McCullough was a federal prosecutor in Raleigh, N.C., back when drug smuggling off the North Carolina coast was at its height.
